Learn how to backup, export, and permanently delete your local ledger data to maintain full control.

True Offline-First: Your Data, Your Control

"Give & Take" is built on the philosophy of User Data Sovereignty. Beyond our financial-grade cloud encryption, we provide a comprehensive local data management system.

This means you can manage your ledger files manually, completely independent of our servers.

📂 Exporting & Local Backups

If you prefer to store your ledger on a USB drive, iCloud Drive, or your personal cloud storage:

  1. Open the app and go to Settings.
  2. Locate the Local Management section and tap Export Local Backup.
  3. File Generation: The app will package your data into a secure .db file.
  4. Choose Destination: You can save it to your local device, send it via email/messaging apps, or upload it to a third-party storage provider of your choice.

💡 Tip: Even if you use cloud sync, we recommend performing a manual local export after significant financial reconciliations.

🔄 Importing & Data Recovery

When moving to a new device or reverting to a specific manual backup:

  1. In the app Settings, tap Import Local Backup.
  2. Select File: Use the system file picker to find the .db file you previously exported.
  3. Safety Confirmation: Since importing will overwrite your current local data, the app will ask for a final confirmation.
  4. Instant Refresh: Once confirmed, the app will refresh and your ledger will be restored exactly as it was during the backup.

🧹 Data Clearing & Account Deletion

We respect every user's "Right to be Forgotten" and offer different levels of data destruction:

1. Clear Local Data

If you only want to wipe the records from your current device (e.g., before lending your phone to someone):

  • Go to Settings and select Clear All Data.
  • This action only removes local files and does not affect your encrypted backups in the cloud.

2. Account Deletion & Cloud Destruction

If you decide to stop using our service and wish to wipe all cloud footprints:

  • Tap the menu icon, click your avatar to enter the Profile page.
  • At the bottom, select Delete Account.
  • Safety Verification: To prevent accidental deletion, you will be required to enter your password.
  • Permanence: Once confirmed, all your encrypted cloud copies will be permanently destroyed. This process is irreversible.
